The Environments of SGRs: A Brief & Biased Review
نویسنده
چکیده
I review some recent developments in our understanding of the environments of soft gamma-ray repeaters. I pay particular attention to the apparent association betwwen SGR 1900+14 and SGR 1806-20 and embedded clusters of stars.

Environmental Influences in SGRs and AXPs
Soft gamma–ray repeaters (SGRs) and anomalous x–ray pulsars (AXPs) are young (<100 kyr), radio-quiet, x-ray pulsars which have been rapidly spun-down to slow spin periods clustered at 5 − 12 s. Nearly all of these unusual pulsars also appear to be associated with supernova shell remnants (SNRs) with typical ages < 20 kyr. If the unusual properties of SGRs and AXPs were due to an innate feature,...
متن کاملRational Choice Theory: A Cultural Reconsideration
Economists have heralded the formulation of the expected utility theorem as a universal method of choice under uncertainty. In their seminal paper, Stigler and Becker (Stigler & Becker, 1977) declared that “human behavior can be explained by a generalized calculus of utility-maximizing behavior” (p.76). The universality of the rational choice theory has been widely criticized by psychologists, ...
متن کاملThe Effects of China's Growth in Manufacturing Sector in the U.S. Economy
T his paper investigates the gain of bilateral trade between China and U.S. in manufacturing sectors when both countries play a role in asymmetric (biased) growth of international trade. Our model includes a special case of Biased Growth Theory in international trade. We collected labor productivity, export and import data by using classification of manufacturing industries, for U.S...
متن کاملNature vs. Nurture: The Origin of Soft Gamma–ray Repeaters and Anomalous X–ray Pulsars
Soft gamma–ray repeaters (SGRs) and anomalous x–ray pulsars (AXPs) are young and radio-quiet x-ray pulsars which have been rapidly spun-down to slow spin periods clustered in the range 5− 12 s. Most of these unusual pulsars also appear to be associated with supernova shell remnants (SNRs) with typical ages < 30 kyr. By examining the sizes of these remnants versus their ages, we demonstrate that...
متن کاملpulsars torqued by accretion disk ?
The nature of AXPs/SGRs (anomalous X-ray pulsars/soft γ-ray repeaters) and high field radio pulsars is still unclear even in the magnetar and/or accretion models. The detection of radio emission from AXP XTE J1810−197 and the discovery of a debris disk around AXP 4U 0142+61 might shed light on the problem. We propose that AXPs/SGRs could be pulsars that have magnetic field B 10 13 G as normal p...
